One day in early September I got a call from Rich, asking if I was available for his wedding with Avery in 3 weeks. Needless to say, it was a rush of excitement getting their painting prepped and ready for their ceremony. It seemed that Rich and I were talking every day, planning a pose that would capture their relationship and be a heartfelt surprise for Avery. He sent me countless photos from their engagement, each a microcosm of the sincere love that they both share. I could tell how much surprising Avery meant to him and I can honestly say that it made me that much more excited to paint both of them. Ultimately we decided on a wedding painting that was both delicate and intimate.
Their wedding took place at one of my favorite Charleston wedding venues, the Legare Waring House at Charlestown Landing. I showed up a few hours before the ceremony to get the painting started so the surprise would go off without a hitch! Their ceremony beneath the live oak trees was just magical. And don’t get me started on the green background, it was the perfect compliment to the lush greenery.
Though what ultimately mattered was the surprise, and when she saw the wedding painting her jaw dropped. I even included a hint of her engagement ring, a meaningful piece that Rich had put months of work into. Adding special moments like that to the wedding ceremony really brought this piece together. I can truly say that after all of the time we spent planning this, Rich and I have become good friends! So congratulations to Rich & Avery on such a wonderful Charleston wedding and a happy marriage!
